Puppy kennel cough is no different than kennel cough in dogs that are older. The main thing is that once you have a puppy with kennel cough you will want to make it as comfortable as possible.  I will discuss kennel cough and some great home remedies that can be used on puppies. WHAT IS PUPPY KENNEL COUGH

Think of kennel cough as being like a cold or flu in humans. This respiratory infection in our pets is caused by bacteria and viruses. Here are the bacteria and viruses that cause kennel cough.

• Bordetella Bronchiseptica – This bacteria is thought to be the main culprit in causing kennel cough.
• Canine Parainfluuenza -3 – This is the same virus that causes distemper in dogs.
• Canine Adenovirus Type 2 – This virus causes colds in dogs.

Kennel cough may cause your puppy to have a sore throat. Treatment with some home remedies or natural remedies can do a lot to help ease their discomfort.

HOME REMEDIES FOR TREATING PUPPY KENNEL COUGH:

• Pediatric robitussen is being used for puppies to help soothe throat tissues that have become sore due to the inflammation of the throat that occurs from the infection. Just like we would do for our children cough syrups are being used on pets. While you will see some posts that say not give this to your dog there are also many post where vets are recommending it. I love this post from a lady who tried it. GOOD NEWS! The Pediatric Robitussin Drops worked! She has not been coughing for the past 2 days! I only used it about 3 days and could not believe how fast it worked. We are still watching her continually though, as well as her siblings. So far so good!:
• Echinacea – an herb being given to bolster the immune system.
• Garlic is being given because of its antibacterial and antiviral benefits.
• Honey is being used not only to soothe the throat but also for the antiseptic benefits of the honey. The amount that is being reported used is 1 teaspoon of honey given three times a day. Other people are having trouble getting the dog to take straight honey are mixing it in water and giving a few drops directly into your pet’s mouth every hour or so.
• Humidifiers are being used to moisture the air around our pets. Just like us we like a moist warm air when we have a cold. Some are reporting using essential oils such as lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus.
• Heated beds can also be a great comfort to any puppy suffering from kennel cough. Keep them dry and comfortable.

Consider using all natural products if you use over the counter products. Not as harsh and very little if any side effects.
